runDisney. Can you imagining running through Disney
World? Starting under the SpaceshipEarth at Epcot, through the Magic Kingdom,
around the Seven Seas Lagoon? When I think about it I can actually well up in
tears, okay, disclaimer: I do cry at some point during every half marathon I have completed
(six if you really want to know) and not because I am in pain but because of
how incredibly inspiring all the other runners are and how amazing it is for
me, to know that I am actually accomplishing something I worked so hard for. Couple
that with running at truly magical place, Disney World and well, I’ll be in tears for the
entire 13.1 miles I am sure.
runDisney. When I think of
actually running the Disney Princess Half Marathon, I know that this is the
race that I’d have to have a costume for, I mean, it’s a Princess Half
Marathon, probably the only time in my
life I’d be able to wear a crown and get away with. I’ve debated over what
Princess I’d make a costume for; I always flip flop between Ariel and Pocahontas
because these two Princesses in my eyes are brave brave girls, but my gut
always leads me back to Ariel. Ariel was
the first Disney Princess that I connected with, at the ripe old age of 18.
Yes, 18! I was never a girly girl
growing up, yes I played with dolls, and played dress-up but I much rather play
in the mud, play tag or go on silly adventures with my friends, I was very curious, and sometimes that got me into trouble (is that not Ariel or what?).
I was first introduced to The Little Mermaid in 1989 but not by the movie, well not yet, my first encounter was as a freshman in College, I was in a haze in the library getting ready to study for my first college test, I got bored and randomly started looking through the bookshelves and stumbled upon the book The Little Mermaid from Hans Christian Andersen. I knew the title sounded familiar (the movie came out the same year) so I grabbed the book, found a comfortable nook and read the short but very tragic tale of The Little Mermaid. I remember walking away shocked at how tragic the story was and how brave this mermaid was- she was not afraid of sacrificing her life for what she believed in. When the movie came out a few months later, I was looking forward to see if Disney would still keep an element of the darkness in this animated movie but the moment I laid eyes on Ariel and Flounder, it didn't matter I was hooked. I just loved Flounder, he was adorable, and fun, but I truly connected with Ariel’s curious nature, how incredibly protective she is over those she loved, and how she wasn’t afraid to give up something she loved for something she truly believed in, she was a typical American Teenager (under the sea that is!) and at 18 years old, I felt like I was Ariel.
So yes, I would runDisney as Ariel, I’d have some sea shells in my hair, a
beautiful green skirt with sparkly scales, and I’d have to figure out the top,
I’m not exactly a size two, and I’m not sure they sell sea shells in a D cup, what do you think? Nevertheless, I’d rock as Ariel sea shells or no
sea shells!
What Disney Princess have you connected with?

Haha! I'll bet we could figure something out with the shell bra. There's got to be ideas on Pinterest! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou will make an awesome Ariel!
Love it! When I was running I always wanted to run that race. I should work my way back up to it and we can run together!
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I always loved Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. She didn't really do anything special but I loved that Disney movie as a kid. I loved the little fairy godmothers and especially at the end of the movie where they kept changing her dress pink and blue.
