A Letter To My Sons
Dear My Little Buggers,
In honor of Mother's Day, I wanted to take this time to write a letter to let you know that:
The job of being your mom is incredible, overwhelming, fulfilling, and truth be told damn exhausting. I never thought in my life that I’d be able to love this way, seriously, dudes, you surprise me every day with the amount of love I am able to give, but it also scares the pants off of me too, and makes me question if it’s ever enough.
I want to take this time to thank you, my two beautiful souls for showing me how to appreciate life’s little moments, teaching me how to live in the present to leave the dishes and go play, ummm, well at least for a few hours because leaving them overnight would just haunt me.
Thank you for trusting me to wipe away your tears, to hug the hurt out of you, to love you unconditionally, I can’t even balance a check book if my life depended on it so the fact that you trust me with your heart, soul and life boggles my mind!
Thank you for allowing me to teach you how to brush your teeth, to wipe that stinky tush and to tie your shoes (oh, wait, Aunt Lori taught you that, oops!), and for teaching you the difference between right and wrong.
Thank you for demonstrating how to love your amazing dad better, deeper, and stronger and by doing that, you also taught me that I need to love myself as well.
Because of you two, I’m a better daughter, friend, sister, and yes person so does this mean that I now owe you my life? Really? Wait! I gave birth to you!
I’d like to especially thank you for giving me the gift of running, because I made the decision to lace up my sneakers I no longer want to run away!
Thank you for wiping your grimy hands on my shirt because now I know that Oxiclean is superior to Spray and Wash. Because of you I was able to discover that my voice can reach decibels’ that only dogs can hear; I never thought I could do that so thank you! Thank you for listening to me half-assed, because I love being able to nag you as any mother should nag their children. And thank you for not eating any of the meals I cook because I like, no love being a short order cook, and we all know that chicken nuggets are my specialty!
Being your mom has been the greatest joy of my life but also the biggest challenge I have ever faced. Every day I’m met with a new obstacle, some I conquer, some leave me wounded, and some well let’s just say I don’t touch with a ten foot pole, thanks for that too!
I love you two more than life itself, and it’s a privilege when you call me Mom, or scream “MOMMMY” at the top of your lungs.
Love,
Your Mom
